At LUPUS UK we are conscientious about the impact on our environment of any work we undertake. We recently made the decision to stop purchasing balloons to provide as publicity/awareness materials.
LUPUS UK’s balloons are made from natural latex; an organic material which is fully biodegradable. We are however aware that they can take in the region of 6 months to 4 years to fully degrade, depending on the environment they are exposed to. During this time they can potentially cause harm to wildlife if not properly disposed of. As such we do not condone the practice of balloon releases, even with biodegradable balloons, as they pose a serious risk to wildlife and marine environments.
To prevent waste, we will continue to supply balloons to supporters until our existing stock has run out. To help reduce the environmental impact of our balloons, we would like to ask you to please follow these steps to dispose of them safely when you have finished your event.
How to safely dispose your used balloons
1. Deflate the balloons
2. Cut the balloons into strips using scissors
3. Place all the balloon strips into a paper bag
4. Dispose into your landfill waste where they will break down safely.
Thank you for your assistance.
